The Centre for Medical Law

The Centre for Medical Law is an academic initiative dedicated for exploring the intersection of law, medicine, and healthcare. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and research, the Centre addresses critical challenges in medical jurisprudence, patient rights, and public health policy. Through its long-standing collaboration with Chikitsaneethy, the Centre remains committed for promoting legal awareness and ethical accountability within the healthcare system. Established in 2015 under the visionary leadership of then-principal Dr R Biju Kumar and the dedication of Dr Bindumol V C who was the honorary director of the Centre .Centre created a focus on in depth research on issues where law and medicine converge and conducted lectures, panel discussions, seminars,workshops, and certificate courses on dynamic intersection of law, healthcare, and ethical practice. It fosters awareness, research, and meaningful dialogue on critical issues such as patient rights, medical negligence, and bioethics through academic and collaborative initiatives.
Centre has conducted a two-day state-level workshop on “Right to Emergency Medical Care in Kerala: Issues & Concerns” was conducted at Government Law College, Ernakulam, in collaboration with Chikithsa Neethi, Thrissur on October 2017
A panel discussion on the National Nursing Bill 2020 was organized by the Centre for Medical Law and Ethics in association with Chikitsaneethy December 2020
A Lecture on “Role of Medical Evidence in Criminal Trial” was conducted by the Centre for Medical Law, Government Law College, Ernakulam, in association with Chikithsa Neethi and Daya Hospital on September 2022
A one-day symposium on “Status of Nurses in the Contemporary Era – A Way Forward” was organized by the Centre for Medical Law, Government Law College, Ernakulam, in association with Chikitsa Neethi and the Legal Aid Clinic on January 2023
The Centre for Medical Law, in association with Chikitsaneethy, initiated in 2024 and successfully completed a Certificate Course on Artificial Intelligence in Medical Science. A reference book for the course, edited by Dr. Dayana M. K. and Krishnendu Sreekumar, was published by Ambition Books, Kerala 2025
A one-day workshop titled “Invisible Barriers: Reproductive Justice, Disability and the Quest for Autonomy” was conducted at Government Law College, Ernakulam, coordinated by the Centre for Medical Law in collaboration with Chikitsa Neethi, Thrissur on January 2026
